The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the preservation, documentation and display of South Dakota's sports history.

Ron Lenz - Inducted 2019



Ron Lenz was a 1962 Sisseton High School graduate and a 1970 South Dakota State University graduate.

Lenz served as sports editor of the Watertown Public Opinion from 1968-72. He was voted SD Sportswriter of the Year in 1971. He took over the position as sports information director at the University of South Dakota in November 1972 and in September of 1977 he moved to SDSU in the same capacity. After guiding the SDSU sports information program through a revolution in technology, Lenz retired June 2006.

Among his various awards are: North Central Conference Hall of Fame, the prestigious Warren Berg National Sports Information Director of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from College Sports Information Directors of America.

Lenz served with the 4th Infantry Division in Viet Nam and was the recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded in the fall of 1968. He served on the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors and selection committee for many years.
