Harry Prendergast - Inducted 2019
Harry Prendergast graduated from Milbank High School and was a 1953 graduate of Huron College. At Huron he was All-SDIC in football and basketball. He was a member of three SDIC championship basketball teams and started 39 straight games in football.
Prendergast is the only football coach in South Dakota history to have coached 6-man, 8-man, 9-man and 11-man football at the varsity level. One of the winningest coaches in state history, Prendergast’s teams won 198 games from 1953-87. He coached at Geddes (1953-57), Sioux Valley (1957-76), Newman Grove, NE (1976-79) and Wilmot (1979-87). Besides football, he coached basketball, track & field, cross country, wrestling and baseball.
Prendergast was one of the charter inductees into the South Dakota High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was inducted with Howard Wood, Bob Burns, Max Hawk and Burdell Coplan. He is a member of the Huron College, South Dakota Independent Basketball and South Dakota High School Coaches Association Halls of Fame.
A proud Marine Corps veteran, Prendergast served as recreation director at the South Dakota American Legion Boys State for 36 years.
