The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the preservation, documentation and display of South Dakota's sports history.

Bill Carberry - Inducted 1969



Coached in South Dakota from 1909 until his retirement in 1955. One of the famous Carberry brothers who made athletic history at the University of Iowa shortly after the turn of the century, he came to Yankton High School as coach of all sports in 1909. Carberry moved on to the college ranks, becoming coach at Southern State (later called USD-Springfield). In 1933, he became head coach at Northern State and remained there until his retirement in 1955. He was director of athletics and coach of all sports at Northern for several years, gradually turning over the coaching reins to younger men.
