The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the preservation, documentation and display of South Dakota's sports history.

Stan Marshall - Inducted 1981



Born Jan. 8, 1927 in Yankton. 1945 Centerville grad. 1950 SDSU grad. SDSU athletic director from 1965-80. Served as president and secretary-treasurer of the NCAA and was an influential member on many NCAA committees. Marshall was instrumental in initiating national championships for NCAA Division II and III schools. As a high school coach (1950-55), Marshall coached football, basketball and track at Groton, Centerville and Hot Springs. He was head football and track coach at Jamestown (N.D.) College in 1955-57 before coming to SDSU as an assistant football coach in 1957-63. He was football coach at Wayne (Mich.) State in 1964 before returning to SDSU as athletic director. In college, he participated in football, basketball and track.
